Overview of ACEmessage

Lets take a brief tour of ACEmessage in action in a typical company situation. We will see how ACEmessage provides a simple interface for a powerful and effective solution for delivering information messages to your Users Desktops.
 

[Problem]

One of your critical application servers needs to be taken down for hardware replacement (Unfortunately during the business day!). Users will receive an error if they try to run this application during this downtime. They will clog up your Helpdesk with unnecessary calls and generally slow the department down from dealing with real issues.

As this application is critical to your customer facing goals, you want to inform everyone at your company about the issue, and that it is being dealt with.  This will provide a more professional approach when customers call in, and the sales staff are aware that their application is down.  General Email or Intranet is not immediate enough to distribute this information throughout your whole organisation.
 

[Objectives]

• Notify all Company Users of this unscheduled downtime

• Explain to Users what they need to do

• Minimise the impact of ICT Support calls to your Help Centre

• Notify all Users immediately when the application is available again

[Solution]

First we will load up ACEmessage, and because the critical application is used by all of your staff, we simply target the message to all computers on the network (Domain).

We set a message time out value of 1 hour (So the message will disappear after 1 hour (as we need to catch people who are off to lunch!). This stops the message being read when the problem may no longer be an issue.

We then setup the message text as we want it to appear, we insert a picture to grab their attention. ACEmessage will now look like the below screenshot, click for a larger view.
 

You then click the Send button and wait the few seconds for the message to distribute to your chosen target (All computers in the company network in the above example). Your users start to see the below Alert Pop Up on their Desktop:
 

This type of immediate response would not be available in the email systems of today's communication infrastructures.

In the above example, we demonstrated how ACEmessage can send a message to every computer on your company network.  However, you can also send messages to:
 

• Individual or Groups of Users / Computers

• Organisational Units which are part of Active Directory

• IP Addresses / Subnets / Sites (Within Active Directory)

• Any Domain

• Any combination of the above!
